Dippy The Nation's Favourite Dinosaur. A new book for the Natural History Museum, London…

If you like skeletons, then you’ll like this book. If you like bones, then ditto. If you like dinosaurs on the inside, then you’ll definitely like this.

A new illustrated book I’ve done with the Natural History Museum in London will be available in conjunction with Dippy returning to the NHM from May 27th.

A mouse named Waterhouse, who lives in the Museum, is surprised to discover the huge skeleton amongst the other exhibits in the collection. This inspires a series of questions about Dippy which are helpfully answered by a mysterious and knowledgable voice.

The book was made with the team at the NHM and based on an immense supply of scientific information from palaeontologists who know Dippy like the back of their hands. It was printed in Italy by one of my favourite printers too.

You can pre-order your own copy of Dippy in the Amazon – correction: on Amazon.

I made an illustration of the skeleton replica from looking at hi resolution photographs the NHM had made. My picture is made from kraft paper and oil pencil drawings and numbered so I could put it all back together in the right order. I think I got some of it wrong all the same. Dippy is about 30 feet from head to tail so it’s a difficult thing to fit on the front covert a decent scale. The choice of Waterhouse as a mouse is helpful in indicating the scale of Dippy.
