Lowering the tone of the neighbourhood with black and white…

Thank you to everyone who dropped by to take a look at the drawings during the Primrose Hill Art Trail 2022. A good time was had by all. And it didn’t even rain.

NEW screen print is available (takeaway only)…

I have a new screen print available in The Little Shop.

The Milkbar One-Colour Screen print is a lovingly handlettered who’s-who of takeaway cuisine from a bygone age. Goes well with red or brown sauce, extra salt and a raspberry Bippy.

Printed in a colour evoking the acrid smell of a Gestetner spirit duplicator. Looks good inside or out of a frame.

841 x 594mm
A Limited Edition of 50, signed, dated and stamped.
Substrate: 135gsm / G. F. Smith Accent Fresco Gesso.

Printed at Garudiostudiage, South London.

This year's Primrose Hill Art Trail…

I’m taking part in the Primrose Hill Art Trail again this year. There’s a map available showing locations of local artists who will have their work on display either outside on the pavement or inside their studio. You can take a look, or walk right on by. I’ll have things for sale, for a song. If you’re in the vicinity, come along and say hello.

Indian ink on newsprint.

A good time was had by all at last year’s event.

Clarice Bean Scram…

Lauren Child’s great looking new Clarice Bean book is out now. As a typographer, I would appreciate working with such a brief title. And it goes to show that an author name in the long grass works just fine.

Souvenirs…

Hen is not a fussy eater…

Hen the dog eats a lot, but it’s more for destruction than for nourishment. It’s an oral fixation maybe. And Hen isn’t choosey because Hen will eat anything at all.

My Dog, Hen is in shops on October 13, 2022.

Dippy The Nation's Favourite Dinosaur. A new book for the Natural History Museum, London…

If you like skeletons, then you’ll like this book. If you like bones, then ditto. If you like dinosaurs on the inside, then you’ll definitely like this.

A new illustrated book I’ve done with the Natural History Museum in London will be available in conjunction with Dippy returning to the NHM from May 27th.

A mouse named Waterhouse, who lives in the Museum, is surprised to discover the huge skeleton amongst the other exhibits in the collection. This inspires a series of questions about Dippy which are helpfully answered by a mysterious and knowledgable voice.

The book was made with the team at the NHM and based on an immense supply of scientific information from palaeontologists who know Dippy like the back of their hands. It was printed in Italy by one of my favourite printers too.

You can pre-order your own copy of Dippy in the Amazon – correction: on Amazon.

I made an illustration of the skeleton replica from looking at hi resolution photographs the NHM had made. My picture is made from kraft paper and oil pencil drawings and numbered so I could put it all back together in the right order. I think I got some of it wrong all the same. Dippy is about 30 feet from head to tail so it’s a difficult thing to fit on the front covert a decent scale. The choice of Waterhouse as a mouse is helpful in indicating the scale of Dippy.

Soren Munk’s new album is now out. We designed the package with photographs by Alex Bruel Flagstad and Soren Munk, and the Navarino Records branding illustration was from Lauren Child. The print and mastering was handled by Caspar at Gearbox records, London.

Album launch at Water Rats, London, April 19th. A good time was had by all.
